Two decades ago, Baker and his two partners, John Herma and William
Kellogg, took the largest danger of their lives: They put their money,
their homes, most everything they had on the line to buy an obscure,
Midwestern retail chain named Kohl's.Considering the fact that his
retirement, Baker, has found a new passion the Jay H. Baker Retailing
Initiative in the Wharton College at the University of Pennsylvania.
Baker, a 1956 Wharton graduate, and his wife, Patty, founded the
initiative with a $10 million present. The initiative has been Baker's
passion a technique to give back towards the industry he loves.

speak in regards to the Wharton retailing initiative and all issues
retail. What follows are excerpts of that interview.A number of months
ago we got a concentration in retailing, which means that within the
